Triennial Assessment Report to the Public
Wilber-Clatonia Public Schools, 76-0082
Wilber-Clatonia team members conducted an assessment of the District’s Wellness Policy 5417 during the Spring of 2023. The Board of Education conducted an annual review of the Policy at their June 2023 regular meeting.
The assessment was conducted by utilizing the recommended evidence-based tool:
NDE version Alliance for a Healthier Generation 10-step Checklist. The checklist contained a 3 point scale:
2 = Includes all required language
1 = Includes some of the required language
0 = Includes none of the required language
The assessment results concluded the Policy contains all 10 parts as identified in the checklist as no area scored a 0.
Four areas were scored a 1 and need improved language and
Six areas received a 2.
In general, the areas scoring a 1 needed more clarity or specific measurable goals as opposed to the generalized statements found in the Policy. It was determined to add an Administrative Regulation to the Policy which contains specific goals and action plans for implementation.
Identified actions include:
Nutrition Education/Promotion:
1. Physical Education instructors will review the list of topics, review curriculum in physical education and health to insure a minimum of 12 topics listed in the policy are covered and report to their building administrator.
2. All kitchen staff will attend continuing education conferences, webinars and events to ensure understanding and compliance with meal service including meal planning and preparation and confidentiality.
Physical Activity:
1. Staff will be provided with “brain break” physical exercises to utilize in classrooms to improve physical activity during the regular school day.
Other Student Wellness:
1. Staff will re-start the before school “walking club” that was in place prior to the pandemic.
2. Staff will investigate the feasibility of merging the Wellness Committee membership with the Mental Health team to reduce the number of staff meetings and focus on whole person health and wellness.
Foods Offered but Not Sold Standards:
1. When staff are informed of potential food allergies they will also receive reminders of SMART Snack nutrition standards for class parties or celebrations. Parents will receive notices of possible food allergies in a classroom and SMART Snack alternatives.
2. Nutrition staff will review a la carte items and removing any that are not compliant.
Food and Beverage Marketing
1. District staff will work with the current beverage to remove signage from two beverage dispensers in the teacher work areas and will look for any signage in the concession stands (beverage cooler and menu boards).

Fellow Wolverines,
The summer/camp schedule for all high school and middle school girls basketball players has been changed, effective starting Wednesday, May 31st.
Due to the limited number of high school players and other obligations of players, this decision was made in order to provide a more complete and competitive camp experience for all players and as a result, provide better opportunities for our girls basketball program, grades 7-12.
Should there be any questions please contact Coach Bade or the school's activities department. GO GREEN! #wcpawpride #wilberclatoniapublicschools #onamission #attitudeiseverything #wintheday
2023-24 Concert Choir Jumpstart Rehearsals (August 8-9, 2023)
Summer is here, and I know many of you are making plans, so we wanted to get this information out as soon as possible. For what we believe is the first time, the High School Concert Choir will have its summer camp on August 8th and 9th for incoming students in grades 9-12. These rehearsals will last from 12:15 pm-2:45 pm each day. They will be an opportunity for the students to get a jumpstart on things like sight reading, learning concert music, and just a sense of what it will be like to be in the Concert Choir for newer members and incoming freshmen. We also plan on having other professional musicians work with our singers during those days, if possible.
These rehearsals will be upbeat, relaxed, and, best of all, FREE! I cannot require attendance, so I will offer 10 Letter Points for anyone who attends both days. To put that into perspective, students get 30 points just for being in Choir for a semester. So, if you know that your student cannot make it to these two days, please let me know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. Please email me the information below. Thank you so much for supporting the choral arts at Wilber-Clatonia!
Sincerely,
Trenton Bruntz
